Question:
Blackadder. Who wants a brand new series?

Who's up for a worthy campaign? What will be the setting?

My thoughts are Rowan Atkinson as a headmaster of a failing secondary school, Tony Robinson a accident-prone caretaker, Stephen Fry as chairman of school governors, Tim McInerny as a "still nervous around children but has many years of experience" Physics teacher, Hugh Laurie as an over eager head boy, and Miranda Richardson as the young new English teacher the sixth form boys think they have a chance with. Rik Mayall could have an episode being Offsted Inspector Flashheart.

Any thoughts?

Circa 1970 perhaps (no ofsted but seriously deranged governors Stephen should chair) and Rowan as dep. head. Tim's a good idea (keep the squint and naked ambition though), and Miranda as Head Teacher (like the course administrator in "mind your language" ) Hugh should be an ex head boy-***- English master (he never left with the exception of a short exeat to Uni.)

Flasheart, the deranged groundskeeper/ bursar with delusions of grandeur (believes he is of peerage, no one believes him except a guest appearance by Adrian Edmondson, a school bully's parent, recognises him from his German uncle's description).

Finally, Tony (Balders), the hapless woodwork teacher, constantly endangering himself and the entire populous of the school with his cunning, science related inventions.

It definitely has potential... a little tinkering and fine tuning, and, with Messrs Atkinson's,Curtis', Elton's blessing we could have another hit series.

Oh, and a script too...

In January 2005, Tony Robinson told ITV's This Morning that Rowan Atkinson is more keen than he has been in the past to do a fifth series, set in the 1960s (centered around a rock band called the "Black Adder Five", with Baldrick — aka 'Bald Rick' — as the drummer) . However, aside from a brief mention in June 2005 there have been no further announcements from the BBC that a new series is being planned. Furthermore, in November 2005, Rowan Atkinson told BBC Breakfast News that although he would very much like to do a new series set in Colditz or another prisoner-of-war camp during World War Two, the chances of it happening are extremely low . There were a couple of ideas that had previously floated for the fifth series. Batadder was intended to be a parody of Batman with Baldrick as the counterpart of Robin (suggested by John Lloyd). This idea eventually came to surface as part of the Comic Relief sketch "Spider Plant Man" in 2005, with Atkinson as the title hero, Robinson as Robin, Jim Broadbent as Batman and Rachel Stevens as Mary Jane. Star Adder was to be set in space in the future (suggested by Rowan Atkinson)

It would be great for another series, one of the best series ever.

Originally another series was planned with Edmond Blackadder being cast as a modern Tory Politician however Rik Mayall's New Statesman had beat them to the punch. But being a comedy that uses a historical back drop as it main theme I can't see another one ever being done.

Sounds class! Patent the story and get a into the BBC. Think Rowan may be too Billy Big Spuds for BBC series now, after his movie "sucesses" but he doesn't strike me as being the kind to stand in the way of a good story.

I heard rumours a couple of months back that there were plans for another series, but we'll wait and see if anything materialises. I don't think they'll be able to have Hugh Laurie back while he's still working on House though.

But I'd love another series - there's so many possibilities!

Hey nonny...I don't know if that's the best idea...I miss it dearly and have everything except Christmas carol special on dvd, but I don't know if resurrecting the series now is a good idea, A film or a comic relief special would be good, but the chances of them getting the entire cast back together (including Richard and Ben to write the nob jokes) is highly unlikely...mores the pity... I think I'll write a begging email to the BBC, but first I'm going to have a little drinkie, and then I'm going to execute the whole bally lot of you...

Unfortunatly rowan atkinson thinks himself above "going backwards". The sad thing, though he sold bean to the bbc, it was crap, like the alan partridge episode where he gets a new tv contract, simply cause the programmer liked him.(and then died)

blackadder was classic, early talent, and since then, to a viewer, atkinson has done nothing noteworthy since.

I believe it was in collaberation with ben elton? and from the relativly unfunny, and clearly under funded "bbc2" blackadder the first, we as viewers have seen the series evolve and get better.

(like the origionally bbc2 red dwarf) the budget increases, people are bought in for props, effects, ideas, but there reaches a point, and would i be rude in saying, of the origonators talent?. red dwarf, blackadder, alan partridge....they reach a mainstream, and fizzle out. Mybee its the british hatred of success?

But yes, another series, same writers, actors, producers, as the first....make that television magic again....definatly! If atkinson's ego will let him......."regress"?

Sounds like you have a cunning plan...and its more cunning than a fox, with a degree in cunning from Oxford University!! Im totally with you on this one...I loved Blackadder, my favourite series was the one with Queenie, Nursey and Melchy. I still watch it on UK Gold and even though I've seen every episode, it still cracks me up...poor long suffering "Baulders," and will Percy ever realise that Edmond just hates the sight of him!?

Only if you or whoever writes the script has a wopping sense of humour. Although one can hardly relly on that possibility sins not even the original writers are funny anymore. You also have to have a good director, producer,ex.producer that know what humour is.

Blackadder must have more to do with affairs of state. Besides, Back and Forth really was the best ending. I saw it in the cinema at the Millennium Dome and it was fantastic :D

I respect your decision to revive a classic series. I have the complete season on DVD and I DO MISS THEM. At least I have House to give me a slight flashback .... his character reminds me of Rowan, all that insipid English wit.
