It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good either.

I'll preface by saying that I loved both BSG and SG:1, but they are completely different animals, like Thai food vs pizza.

They are so obviously attempting to emulate Battlestar Galactica it's painful to see, but the Stargate TV shows have a completely different feel to them. You can't do BSG-style heavy drama without compelling characters like Katee Sackhoff's Starbuck, Edward James Olmos' Adama, etc.

And the very soul of Stargate is witty dialogue to lighten the darkest moments- banter between characters and unlikely heroic escapes- like Luke, Han and Leia in the original Star Wars. Not the depressing acceptance of overwhelming statistics over hope, like The Wire.

It's possible it will improve, it's possible we haven't seen key characters introduced yet, but it looks like a Frankenstein combination of two great shows that don't taste great together.

I watched it all the way through and then watched the encore presentation right after. I'm glad some of the original characters appeared to connect it to the old series, including the USS George Hamond. I don't think it fair to judge the show on only the first episode. They seemed to follow the rules set by the other series, like using the stones to communicate with Earth and comming out the stargate at the same location on the event horizion as they went in.

The little things like O'neil's "Yep" in response to Eli, Eli wearing his military cap backwards before stepping through the gate and the other servicemen obviously taking notice, and Eli's "can I get some pants" are one of the great things that put the fun in the show.

I liked the flashbacks giving us history on the characters and how it moved forward, connecting with the present, bringing us up to speed without feeling like a history lesson (Daniel Jackson's orientation videos excepted). Stargate Atlantis started out in a similar way in that the first episode didn't even show the city in the opening credits.

I was a little wary of Stargate Atlantis when it started but it turned out great. At this point, I'd say SGU is more like Star Trek Voyager than BSG. A group of people find themselves far away from home and seek a way back as opposed to the last remnants of the entire human race in the universe try to find a new home.

Give them at least half a season to really get going and then decide.

I loved all the Stargate up until now.

I don't care if this was more like BSG or Voyager, whatever...it was just plain bad. A huge disappointment for me. It was confusing and badly directed with everybody hating each other like any other bad scify movie.

Dr Rush was good but the poor guy was practically all alone to carry it all and it was just not enough. I love Robert Carlyle (especially in The Last Enemy and 24: Redemption).

I'm a big Stargate fan so I'll give it another chance next week but they better get it together by then!

BAD!

It is a absolute mess. Its a total rippoff from BSG. I will exactly watch 3 more episodes, if they still suck major balls i quit for good.

SG1 was Great

SGA had its own place and was good

but SGU is just a 1:1 Copy of BSG with a SG story. I just finished watching it. I cannot believe it really, i liked BSG galatica, Stargate, and Star trek.

But why the hell they,....

I really dont understand this. How could they blew such a great and easy to write concept?

So anybody who has not watched it but love the old stargate. DO NOT WATCH IT.

Let this piece of crap not destroy the memorys of 2 great series

I never expected it to be great...after watching the trailer in summer....I loved SG-1 it was the best and i can still watch it over and over and not get bored of it...SGA i was sceptical about it in the begining but it turned out to be a REALLY GREAT show too,,and i loved it!!!! BUT..this stargate univers SGU is a piece of sh't....ppl who say its like BSG they r right..and i hated that show...and whats up with the sex scene in the beginig???? omg honestly ill watch at least 3 more episodes..so i wud have a reason to quit..but il quit it cuz i dont see too much hope in it...The whole story is Dark and gloomy and full of suffering and crazy caracters...Doesnt have that "Stargate" feeling in it, and all the adventure, team work, diplomacy, techology, exploration, and humour that we all used to love!!!!! I SAY THEY SHOULD RESTORE SGA and make a Stargate Atlantis season 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because "SGU" sux.

It was a complete let down, yes they are right when they say that BSG and SG are completely two different animals. Besides melding the two shows they even took the music from BSG for this new show. SG was all about completing tasks with teamwork and fun; while BSG was full of loose cannons and getting the job done with a mess (understandable since they had no home to go to), they were constantly having to put themselves back together.

The new SG-Universe may have been separated from home but they have a home to go to when they can figure out how to go back (rip off from Voyager). So there is no reason for the chaos and stupidity.

The last 30 minutes were interesting but it was because they were talking about the ship and its purpose and how there were previous ships plopping Stargates all over the universe. But I think the show could be saved if they stop and remember the original concepts of SG and make it its own show. Stop having all these self absorbed people running around and killing themselves. This is a syfy show so imagine greater, and stop dealing with reality since syfy fans look for the out of the ordinary and something that removes them from reality.

Dr. Rush is creepy, a liar, an a arrogant twit.

Col Young can't do his job but not too sure since I cannot figure him out since he spent the show in bed. While in bed he should have used the stones to figure out if the Good Dr. was lying but that is just me

1st Lt. Matthew Scott I liked

Eli Wallace I liked

1st Lt. Tamara Johansen whiney baby

Msgt. Ronald Greer needs to die, since there is no room for crazy people.

I loved it.

People keep saying that SGU is trying to emulate BSG, but I just don't see it. SGU is much less depressing and dark than BSG was. The tone of SGU is more like Lost, which is a serious show but still manages to bring some fun and light-heartedness to the show. There was nothing like that in BSG. Don't get me wrong, I liked BSG, maybe even more than SGU (though it's hard to compare after only 1 episode of SGU); but SGU is not like BSG.

The problem is that people were thinking it was trying to be like BSG before even watching the show, so they're viewing SGU with preconceived notions rather than just taking it for what it is.

+Do you mean BattleStargate? What made them think they could blend their two series, Battlestar Galactica and Stargate together? It was an absolute mess. Someone lost sight of the fact that the audience for Stargate and the audience for Battlestar Galactica were different. It's a shame. I think Stargate (at least the one I enjoyed for 15 years) is gone forever. The BG fans might enjoy this one, but I don't honestly think too many SG fans will accept this.

Booorrrig! I started to watch, but it was so boring that I eventually flipped the channel. Not much action kind of all over the place. Mostly showed people talking. It was a huge dissappointment.

looks that Morelen is right. The January 29 2010 episode is "RESONANCE" that's episode 2 of season a million. i might desire they don't plan to replay all 12 episodes of season a million earlier season 2 premiers. that would stink.

i think it was pretty good. i can't wait for the next episode. it did kind of remind me of battlestar galactica but that didn't make me dislike it one bit. seems to me that it'll be an awesome show!
