Question:
Monty Python?

I'm obviously a big fan of Monty Python being Brian's Mum and all. But is there anybody who really can't stand their humour (and why)?

I know it's not everybody's taste and I sometimes think that it's more cool to say you like something like Python than to be honest and say you think it's poo.

Care to name any other examples of this too?

She turned me into a Newt...

A Newt?

I got better.

Favourite Monty Python is Life of Brian. How can anyone not enjoy this?

Brians mum, I hear your lad has "been a very naughty boy"

In England most people in the 70s were either for the Pythons or for the Goodies. I personally liked them both. I'll laugh at anything and I like it that way. Cann't say there's ever been a comedy series I didn't get. Sure I laugh at things that weren't meant to be funny. Am I odd?

There is NO middle ground for Monty Python -- either you think it's hillarious or you think it's the stupidest thing you've ever seen. Personally, I'm a HUGE Python fan (have all seven seasons of the Flying Circus on DVD, not to mention all the movies, and I'm going to see "Spamalot" on Saturday) but I know a lot of people who just think it's dumb. I don't know; maybe they're not big on British humor, but I think a lot of people who don't like it are people who don't want to use their brains when watching TV or a movie -- they just want to lay there like couch potatoes and be entertained by the easy sight-gags or obvious jokes, and any time you have a story that requires you to actually pay attention and think they label it "garbage" and flip to MTV to watch reruns of "Beavis and Butt-Head."

I never understood Monty Python. Then I went to England for a trip. When I came back, I suddenly understood and got it. Don't really know why or how.

But now I get it.

Python forever! American comedy soaps have changed mostly for the bettrer, but at one time the loud recorded laughter was a killer. This was combined with mostly afro-american famillies shouting at the top of their voices and gesticulating while travelling around the set at dizzying speed. (Incidentally notice how all US home interiors are identical!). Python is a British lnstitution. Like it or loathe it.

I loved it at the time, I thought it was the best thing since baked beans on toast. But now it just doesn't appeal to me the same as it did. Back then I couldn't miss an episode. But now if it was on I would not bother to watch it, for the life of Brian.

Monty Python is good the first time or two, but it is not genius. It's just dumb comedy ~ good for watching while your sick with a cold. It's mindless.

i can see from the answers from our America friends.they still don't do irony.is it because you have to think about it.and its not like the cr*p comedy from America.were they have to spell p*ss poor jokes that are so childish it hurts my one brain cell.and i talking about friends/king of queens/,every body loves raymond./the last half decent comedy from America was taxi.so if you listen to British comedy like peter cook/Monty python etc.you will see that you have to think about the jokes.and from what i can tell thinking is not a strong in Americas.

Nah, love it...definitely my type of humour....most of the time.

Sometimes Python got a bit too silly at times, though...but love them for the most part...esp "Twit of the Year" contest skit...that always makes me laugh.
