I was watching "Lou Grant" on TV the other night, and it got me thinking about this. I know the "Mary Tyler Moore" show had"Lou Grant", "Rhoda" and "Phyllis". (Maybe others that I can't even remember!) So there must be other shows with more spinoffs.

Til Death Do Us Part is a British Show that inspired the US show All In the Family, Which spun off The Jeffersons which gave us Checking In, Gloria, 704 Houser Street, Archie Bunker's Place and Maude which Gave us the Good Times

Some of these US shows were made into British versions such as Good Times into The Fosters and Maude into Nobody's Perfect.

Mary Tyler Moore's spinoff Rhoda gave us a spinoff primetime animated special starring the doorman called Carlton, Your Doorman and there was the Mary and Rhoda telefilm.

Golden Girls, Golden Palace, Empty Nest and Nurses.

Doctor Who (original), Doctor Who (current), Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures and K-9 & Company.

Below, about Happy Days, aside from Mork & Mindy, Joanie Loves Chachi and Mork & Mindy, there are more now that I think of it, including Blansky's Beauties, Fonz and the Happy Days Gang (animated), Laverne & Shirley in the Army (animated), Mork & Mindy (animated) and Laverne & Shirley in the Army with the Fonz. Also, Love American Style spunoff Wait Till your Father Gets Home.

In a similar vein of spinoff of anthologies, the British Comedy Playhouse gave us Are You Being Served which gave us Grace & favour and the Australian Are you Being Served which had John Inman of the original being lent out to Mr. Grace's cousin and the US version Beanes of Boston with Charlotte Rae, John Hillerman and Alan Seuss. Also from this series is Steptoe & Son which inspired the US Sanford & Son which spun off Grady, The Sanford Arms, and Sanford. Other series from this include Last of the Summer Wine, The Liver Birds, and All Gas and Gaiters. This also gave the series Till Death Do Us Part which inspired All in the Family above which brings us full circle.

Comedy Playhouse in my mind is the winner.

I think "Happy Days" also had three: "Laverne & Shirley," "Joanie Loves Chachi," and "Mork and Mindy." "Happy Days" was in itself a spinoff of "Love, American Style."

I don't know if you'd count all the "Law & Order" shows, because technically they're more "sequel" shows (same premise, different actors) than an actual spin-off (character from one series gets his/her own series).

BTW, I'm envious of you being able to watch "Lou Grant"!! I loved that show when I was younger.

If you start from the premise that a "spinoff" involves taking at least one regular or guest character, and starting a new show based on that character, and that we're also talking about major network, adult shows, then the clear winner is "All in the Family", followed by "Love American Style" ("Happy Days")!

Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers , which in itself is a reworking of Japanese Sentai Shows going all the way back to the 1970's first show called Go Rangers. Go Rangers spun-off so many variations that Ju Rangers was the source material for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in the 1990's.

Although All in the Family would be a GOOD CHOICE with such spin offs as Maude, Goodtimes, The Jeffersons, Checking in, Archie Bunkers Place, Gloria, and 704 Hauser .There is ANOTHER that beats even that.

and its called ALL THAT. it set the course for another 14 Spinoffs.

Kablam, Action League Now ,Angela anaconda, Keenan and Kel Guys like us, The Amandas Show, What I like about you, Drake and Josh, I-Carly, Sam and Kat,The Nick Cannon Show, Zoey 101, Victorious, and Justin wonder

Additions to the Mary Tyler Moore Spin-offs List

The show spun off three television series: the sitcoms Rhoda (1974–1978) and Phyllis (1975–1977), and the one hour drama Lou Grant (1977–1982), all of which aired on CBS. In 2000, Moore and Harper reprised their roles in a two-hour ABC TV movie, Mary and Rhoda.
