Beginning of Battlestar Galactica?

Question

I was interested in watching Battlestar Galactica, so I went online to find the episodes. I've never seen the show before so I started with episode 1 of season 1. However, at the beginning it said "Previously on Battlestar Galactica" even though I thought it was episode 1. I have no idea whats going on, could someone help me out and explain to me why there is other things going on in episode one?

There was a 2 part miniseries that aired a while before it was developed into a full fledged TV series.

There is a mini-series that boosted the show. In a way, the miniseries was a test. The ratings were so high, that they created the actual show. The episode you watched was only 44 minutes, it was an episode. The true begining of the show is the 3 hour miniseries. i highly recommend the show

initiate with the 2003 miniseries. the 1st episode of season a million starts off especially much in the present day after the top of the miniseries. There are some video clips besides. Watch the miniseries, then seasons a million-3, then the action picture Razor. Then watch the the remainder of the series, then the action picture The Plan.
